“My name is Lama Al Sosi, and I am 25 years old. I was living in Gaza, Palestine. I was known as “the artist doctor” as I have a keen passion for dentistry and art. I completed my internship in October 2023 and was eager to begin my career. However, my dreams have been abruptly put on hold.
I believed that graduation would mark the start of my achievements. I worked tirelessly during my internship to build my career, meticulously documenting my cases. I also began conducting art training courses, teaching artists from scratch whilst perfecting my own art skills. I was happy.
On October 9th, our lives were turned upside down. My family and I lost our home, our possessions and all of my artwork to a missile. We were thrust into a series of displacements, left with no money, no hope, and heavy hearts. I lost my niece in a bombing of her house and many of my friends and relatives.
On April 24, 2024, I was displaced to Egypt with my brother, leaving behind my parents, my sisters, their husbands, and their children. Our funds were insufficient for the entire family to leave.
Currently, I have no hope of securing a job without my certificate. I dreamt of having a job, saving money, and buying a car like anyone else in the world. I aspired to complete my master’s degree, or perhaps, apply for a scholarship and soar beyond the confines of this turmoil.
My dreams have not vanished; they are merely waiting to be revived. With the necessary support, I can rebuild my future and continue to aspire, create, and achieve”
