Hello, I am Dr. Hala Hashem, a dentist who graduated from Al-Azhar University in Gaza in 2022.
I worked for two months at my husband’s dental clinic in Gaza and had just started my career when the war came and destroyed everything—literally everything. My home, my car, the family house, our clinic, our college, and even our best friends were taken from us. I endured the war for more than six months, witnessing death firsthand and surviving bombings multiple times. I have a small baby, who was only one month old at the start of the war, whom I had to leave behind occasionally to help the wounded in the streets.
Since October 2023, I have been separated from my parents, and my husband has been in Egypt since September 2023. I have struggled to survive, enduring a lot and doing everything on my own until I could travel and secure a future for my son and me. Currently, I am in Egypt, starting from zero—no, from even less than zero. I have lost everything: my friends, my house, my clinic, my future.
I hope that this terrible war will end as soon as possible so that I can pursue my ambition and dream of becoming one of the most successful endodontists ever.
We believe that by standing together and lifting each other up, we can build a more compassionate and inclusive society.
